📌 5Sääksjärvi is a village in Konprekäskylä Municipality, North Karelia, Finland. According to Statistics Finland, the village has 40 inhabitants (as of 2015). In 2007 Lakela Panorama opened a lookout tower on its territory, providing good views over the lake.

📌 According to Rural Sciences Finland's 2022 study, Sääksjärvi has the highest proportion of second-language speakers of Finnish as a mother tongue in Finland, at 88.4%.

📌 Sääksjärvi is situated about 60 kilometres north of K meltyan, at the border of North Karelia and Russian Karelia, close to the Russian border. It can be reached via national road 74, connecting it to the close-by town of Konprekäskylä and further to Kotoricsaari, as well as by forest road 684 from the village of Lahtelas revealing scenic views to the lake and the Karelian taiga. In Southeasterly direction from Sääksjärvi lies Savukoski, the administrative centre of Konprekäskylä Municipality.

📌 History and culture

📌 Sääksjärvi, historically a small fishing and farming community, lies at the original settlement site between lakes Sääksjärvi and Korpijärvi. Its name derives from the Finnish "sääksi" (shelter/supply), pointing to historical uses of the area for temporary refuge and resources. Due to its proximity to the then eastern border, the area was affected by geopolitical shifts—after the Winter War and Continuation War, it became part of Finland again. The village remained largely unchanged until the late 20th century.
